Biography

New Yorker Lily Akerman is a first-year playwright in Juilliard’s Lila Acheson Wallace American Playwrights Program. Her recent work includes The Commons (59E59), The Stalls (Cork Opera House), and Hedgehog Years (Playing On Air). Her work has appeared in the Dublin Fringe Festival, Cork Midsummer Festival, and Dixon Place. It has been developed with Fault Line Theatre, the Hearth, Clubbed Thumb, and the New Theatre in Dublin. She has written several opera librettos, two of which were nominated for Best Opera by the Irish Times. She won Playing On Air’s 2018 James Stevenson Prize, was a finalist for the Leah Ryan Prize, and received the Rita Goldberg Play Award. She’s a Fulbright awardee and a New Georges affiliated artist. She received her MFA in Playwriting from Hunter College, under Annie Baker and Branden Jacobs-Jenkins.
